ARITZIA LOVES

The Heritage Sweater Coat

FEBRUARY 10, 2010 By: cancansoo

When great things happen to us (aka being chosen to design the costumes for the 2010 Winter Olympics Victory Ceremonies), our fans are never ever far from our thoughts.  Because of that, we've created this special interpretation of the Heritage Sweater worn at the Olympic Victory Ceremonies exclusively for you.

Available now at select Aritzia locations and is available for order at all stores across Canada.

As a Canadian, I must agree although the ready-to-wear interpretation is lovely it is NOT the beautiful genuine article that I, like a million others have fallen in love with! I would be honoured as a knitter to be able to re-create the true-blue original. Please make us proud and sell the pattern or at the very least release a limited number of the actual sweater to be sold.

I must agree with others on this page. There are so many people who would love the opportunity to purchase this pattern. As a Canadian living in the USA, I was very proud of the Vancouver Olympics but what caught my eye the most was the Heritage Sweater. Please consider releasing the pattern for sale.

I LOVE the sweater, great job on the Olympics! Please please please consider releasing the pattern for the sweater. Or sell the sweater. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the heritage sweater that the actual volunteers got to wear. I wish they were available to the public to buy. Does anyone know what type/brand of boots they wore? I love those too but can't figure out what brand they are!

March 1, 2010 @ 3:07 PM: mrsalvo

You really should release the pattern, I know many talented knitters who can make this coat. Or better yet - sell the version you made for the olympics - it really is gorgeous. Or sell the pattern.

Please count me as another vote for selling the Hertiage Sweater Coat pattern. While the ready-to-wear interpretation of it is lovely in and of itself, it's not the same as the genuine article. Please sell the pattern. Just to give an example of the broader interest, I'm a member of a knitting group on Yahoo! in Los Angeles that has over 1,500 members and the Heritage Sweater Coat and finding a pattern for it is a topic of conversation today. It's also been mentioned in the forums on Ravelry.com, an online knitting and crocheting community with over 658,000 registered users. The audience and interest are there! Sell. The. Pattern. (please) :)

I am absolutely in love with the Heritage Sweater as seen in the Olympic medal ceremonies - please please please keep me posted if you release a knitting pattern for this -- or better yet -- the sweaters themselves! Gorgeous!!

February 27, 2010 @ 9:33 PM: Cindy

I would love the pattern for this sweater.

I love the olympic costumes, well done! I love, love, love the chunky knit sweater. Is it possible to collaborate with a local knitting store to come up with a pattern and some yarn as a kit ... they will be a big seller.

WOW, Sheer Excitement & Disappointment all at once! I saw the Heritage Sweater Coat during the Olympic coverage and instantly fell in love with it. I was determined to track it down, but doubted I would have any luck. Thanks to the wonderful world of the Internet I actually found it pretty quickly, I was SO HAPPY I might be able to purchase one from Aritzia! Then the CRASH, it is not available!!! Thanks for offering the "alternative", but unfortunately it is like comparing an apple to an orange! IMHO, nothing beats a chunky large gauge hand knit sweater! I can appreciate the original Sweater Coat is knit with an unusually large gauge needle, but it is not actually that uncommon to use size 50 needles. I am not sure if you know the exact size of the needles used to knit the original, but I would bet size 50 is close. If you check around you will actually see that companies have mass produced items with very large gauge needles. The throw below, offered by Anthropologie, is knit with huge bulky wool yarn and needles that are at least size 50 or larger. http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=990016&... I also have items from Polo and Gap that are knit using bulky wool yarn and large gauge needles. I really think you could reproduce the original! Thanks! M

Add me to the list of knitters who would LOVE to have the knitting pattern. I've made huge knitting needles out of dowel rods before, and I'd definetly do it again for this coat.

February 28, 2010 @ 10:45 PM: Anonymous

I would agree on releasing the pattern for the sweater and even those needles to make this amazing sweater.

February 27, 2010 @ 9:57 PM: cookieknits

Some knitting designer is going to come up with a knock off pattern for this. Please consider selling the pattern yourself. We really, really want it!

March 1, 2010 @ 2:19 PM: Anonymous

I'm already working on how to make a version of this for myself. The hardest part is not the needles for me (I'm sure knit on 50s it would look very similar). I'm having trouble figuring out the "yarn" which I assume is roving. I love, love, love this sweater and will figure it out, but it would be so much nicer to just have a pattern from the original designer made available for sale. It would not only be nicer for knitters, but also for the designer because they could continue to profit.

I love how chunky the knit on the ceremony sweaters are-- are you going to make a sweater with a knit similar to that instead of the finer grey one?

February 23, 2010 @ 1:56 PM: cancansoo

The chunky knit of the Heritage Sweaters were made with knitting needles that were specially commissioned (they're pretty massive - bigger than drummer sticks!) and were all hand-knit.  Therefore, they aren't being made for stores as it takes many many hours for the artisans to knit each piece individually.  Sorry!

February 23, 2010 @ 12:23 AM: ericalee

oh dear - i am really coveting the real sweater from the games!! please change your mind and make these available :(

February 21, 2010 @ 12:47 AM: MONICA

I am really disappointed to hear that the Heritage sweater worn at the Olympic victory ceremonies will not be mass produced, I was hoping for an early Christmas present. However, I was wondering if you could make the knitting instructions available along with the wool and package it, for those knitters amongst us. What do you think?

February 23, 2010 @ 1:58 PM: cancansoo

The knit on these sweaters was only able to accomplished because of the specially commissioned knitting needles that were made (they're huge!).  We've taken your request for the pattern to be released into consideration but, quite frankly, we're not sure if it's possible to recreate without having those special needles!

February 16, 2010 @ 1:23 AM: Brittany

The sweater is adorable! I am a little disappointed that it doesn't have any colour in it like the original heritage sweater. Will any of the originals be for sale after the olympics?

February 16, 2010 @ 11:30 AM: cancansoo

We feel you!  We love the pieces made for the Victory Ceremonies so much but each of those was handmade and custom fit to each individual girl so, unfortunately, the retail stores won't be carrying them.

February 16, 2010 @ 12:07 AM: Hanna

This is adorable! Available at Water Tower?

February 16, 2010 @ 11:33 AM: cancansoo

Currently, the sweater is only available in-store at Canadian locations but our US customers can always order one in.  You can either visit the store closest to you and ask a sales associate to help or call our toll-free number at 1 877 313 3132.

I love this heritage sweater, but I am also completely and absolutely in love with the one you guys designed for the olympics. Are you ever going to duplicate it and sell it to the masses at any point? If not, at least comfort me by saying that you'll be selling those belts. I love your designs for the olympics and I'm so jealous of the lucky girls who will wear them!

February 12, 2010 @ 8:57 PM: MK

Can we buy the one in the lookbook? The blue one....it's EXQUISITE!!!

February 11, 2010 @ 10:07 AM: Anonymous

Go Canada! Love the sweater- so rad. Is this available in Fairview Mall or Yorkdale Mall in Ontario? Also, how much does the sweater cost? Thank ya!

February 11, 2010 @ 12:46 PM: k

The sweater is available at Yorkdale, Toronto Eaton Centre, Vaughan Mills and Sherway Gardens in the Toronto area. However, you can always order it from any Aritzia location and we're happy to have it transfered in for you. The limited edition Heritage Sweater is $165.
